Adgey-Edgar, W. - Golden Angel
A Golden Angel weather vane was planned for the tower of the Cathedral in 1962. The 15 foot figure was designed by Edward Maufe and built by Alan Collins.
The file contains correspondence with Sir Edward Maufe re: design, construction and installation; with W H Adgey-Edgar who donated the construction costs of £3,500 in memory of his son who died on service in 1944; with the Press re: coverage of the construction and installation of the Angel; with Sir Edward Maufe and Mr and Mrs Adgey-Edgar re: installation of the Angel and a memorial inscription to their son Reginald Donovan Adgey-Edgar.
File also contains a leaflet from c July 2000 re: restoration and re-gilding of the Angel with funding from One 2 One, (digital mobile phone network), when the existing pole support was replaced by a five metre high antena.
