Goldsmiths (General)
Concerning the Goldsmiths’ Company gift of new plate for Guildford Cathedral; including a copy of correspondence from the Clerk to the Company of 17 June 1937 proposing the gift of items not exceeding £2500 and the launching of a competition to design the gold and silver plate.
The plate was designed by Leslie G Durbin and made at the LCC Central School of Arts and Crafts, under the close supervision of Sir Edward Maufe. By March 1953 the plate had been exhibited at GOldsmiths’ Hall and at important international exhibitions in Great Britain and abroad.
Includes list of the plate items and insurance correspondence.
