Minutes of Cathedral Site Committee
First meeting was held at the Diocesan Office on Wednesday July 18th 1928.
Nine possible sites for the Cathedral were given but it was decided to definitely to discard four.
The second meeting held at Diocesan Office on Friday July 20th 1928.
It was decided to form a sub-committee to make enquiries into all questions relating to Allen House.
The third meeting was held on October 3rd 1928 at Diocesan Office.
The committee agreed to accept the offer of Lord Onslow to have a ‘lay out’ of the ground on Stag Hill.
The fourth meeting was held at Diocesan Office on October 27th 1928.
Lord Onslow submitted a draft of the terms under which he offered a site on Stag Hill.
The next committee meeting was held on December 14th 1928 at Diocesan Office. These minutes were repeated in the next bound volume of minutes but they contained more detail.
It was agreed that the Bishop should approach an architect, Sir Lionel Earle, for advice on the lay-out of the site and to how choice of architect and designs for the Cathedral should be made. It was also agreed ‘That Lord Onslow be asked to grant a legal contract for the lease of the site on Stag Hill on the terms submitted by him and that Mr. Merriman be asked to act as Solicitor on behalf of the Committee in this matter.’
