Cathedral Minutes October 1959
The Provost informed the Chapter that the building of the West End would not be finished by May 1960, so doubts had been raised as to the wisdom of Consecrating the Cathedral on the proposed date. The delay in the building program was due in some measure to the illness of the Architect.
The Chapter thought it would be better to postpone the Consecration for probably a year as this would enable the builders to complete their work.
Provisional drawings for proposed residencies were circulated and a sub-committee found they had fulfilled the requirements of the Provost and Chapter.
The Executive Committee had asked Sir Edward Maufe to draw up plans for the residencies and these had shown a Cathedral Close. However, another Architect said the houses must be designed to lie upon the site and must not be imposed upon it.
