Cathedral Minutes of the Sub-Committee April 1961
This Committee met to make recommendations with regard to the arrangements in the Cathedral during the interim period before the installation of the Dean. They also discussed the allocation of stalls for each member of the Chapter and the Consecration Eucharist on May 18th.
Mr. Ware reported the shortage of storage and a lack of a small safe for vessels in daily use. He was authorised to buy 6 albs, 6 amices and girdles and to arrange for supplies of Communion wine, wafers [from St. Peter’s Convent, Woking] and candles. A 1662 Altar book and a register of services would be needed. Mr. Ware was asked to discuss with the Chapter Clerk with regard to marriage services and registers. He was also asked to check the position of cleaners with Miss Iredale and to arrange if possible the provision of flowers by local parishes Sunday by Sunday.
Mr. Kelly would be responsible for the communicants roll of the old New Cathedral. The burial of ashes should be restricted to those whose names had been on the roll or to such others as the Chapter might specifically decide. The privilege of marriage and baptism would be restricted to those on the roll at that date.
Mr. Ware reported that a Cathedral omnibus had been delivered, was now in use and the organist was the driver. Mr. Ware then withdrew from the meeting. The sub committee then discussed finances and administration.
