Cathedral Minutes September 1960
The decision on whether to name the Canon’s stalls was postponed. There is a typed terms of agreement for the period May 1961 – December 1963 between the Guildford New Cathedral Fund and the Dean and Chapter of the Cathedral.
After discussion it was agreed to ask the Diocesan Board Of Finance to make a grant of £750 a year towards the Cathedral Services.
A gift of £170 towards the new Church Hall for the Conventional District of the New Cathedral was authorised.
The Architect had suggested there should be text on the walls of the Baptistery, the Chapter resolved that there should be no text on the walls of the Baptistery of any kind.
Accommodation for the laity for the Consecration would be between 1600 and 1650. Further discussion was adjourned until the next meeting.
The Provost said that the appointment of a Verger should be made by February. The salary would be £400 p.a. and free accommodation. The Provost was asked to advertise the vacancy.
The functions of the new Cathedral would be discussed at the next Chapter meeting.
