Minutes of the Executive Committee of the Guildford New Cathedral Council, April 1961
A memorandum had been circulated which stressed the importance of avoiding a gap in building operations. Sir Edward Maufe had already started work on drawings for the Sacristy.
‘Sir Edward said that there would be no difficulty in giving priority to the Sacristy but also employing bricklayers and others for work on the tower’
Edward Maufe said ‘It might be well to consider the Canada Chapel as the Chapter House and provide an extra room under the Canada Chapel for the use of Cathedral authorities, this would be a matter for consideration later’
The Executive Committee gave authority for the work on the Sacristy and the Tower to be started as soon as possible on the understanding that the completion of the Sacristy would have priority.
