The Second Meeting of the General Committee of the New Cathedral and Churches Fund, March 1934
The Committee agreed that Climax Day for the first year’s efforts (1934) should be Saturday December the 15th. This should be marked by a big service in the present Cathedral when the gifts from each Parish should be presented. The first year’s objective should be £50,000 for the Cathedral and £20,000 for new churches. Mr Lucy asked whether the Foundation Stone would be laid as soon as this figure was raised, unanimously the answer was yes.
It was proposed and seconded that there should be a ‘Send-off Day’ and this should take the form of a Corporate Communion in the present Cathedral to be followed by a public meeting in the Borough Hall, Guildford. The upmost publicity was needed and this could best be secured through the local press. Newspapers went into every home. The meeting decided that if possible this should be held on Thursday May 3rd in conjunction with the Diocesan Conference.
