The service of Mattins was attended by The Chairman of Surrey County Council, the High Sheriff of Surrey and Lord Hamilton of Dalzell, the Deputy Mayor and Mayoress of Guildford and Lord-Lieutenant of Surrey._x000D_

The Union flag, the Standards of the Burma Star Association, the Royal British Legion and the Royal British Legion Women’s Section were received by the Dean at the High Altar._x000D_

The first lesson was read by Mrs. Cecilia Gerrard DL. the Chairman of Surrey County County. The second lesson was read by Richard Thornton HM Lord Lieutenant of Surrey and Patron of the Royal British Legion [Surrey County]_x000D_

Prayers were read by Reverend Richard Hanford, Vicar of Ewell and Surrey County Chaplain to the Royal British Legion and by five ex-service members: C.P. Hales and T.P. Rogers from the Royal British legion, W. Cox and J. Sharp MM from the Burma Star Association and Major W.S.C. Chevis from the Soldiers’, Sailors’ and Airmen’s Families Association._x000D_

Also prayers were read by Mr. Eddie Bradley-Feary [from the Baptist Church] by Mr. Michael Gammon [representing the Roman Catholic Church] and by Mr. Gordon McCullum [lay preacher in the United Reformed Church]. The sermon was by the Dean of Guildford, the Very Reverend A.G. Wedderspoon. The blessing was by the Lord Bishop of Guildford, the Right Reverend John Gladwin._x000D_

The exhortation was recited by Mr. Roy Swabey the Chairman of the Royal British Legion [Surrey County] and the Last Word The Kohima Epitaph was recited by Mr. W.J. Knight, National Assistant Secretary of the Burma Star Association.
