Minutes of the Fifth Annual General Meeting of the Guildford New Cathedral Council Fund, April 1959
Miss Iredale gave a report on the main concerns which had been dealt with on behalf of the Council during the past year.
A letter from the Provost on behalf of the Chapter made it clear he believed the future Dean and Chapter would wish the Cathedral Council to continue and hold the same status.
Lord Hamilton reminded the Council that in January 1958 the Bishop had expressed the hope that after the date of Consecration (31st May 1960) the Cathedral Council would not make it’s appeal to the parishes.
Financial discussions took place in regard to the West End of the Cathedral.
The Architect offered to forego part of the fees due to him on the West End contract.
The Executive Committee agreed that the building of Clergy houses was dependent on a long term loan (25 years) being made available by the Church Commissioners.
The Cathedral Council agreed to make the purchase in St. John’s road for the cost of £2,650, subject to the Executive Committee action in the matter.
