Cathedral Minutes February 1954
The possibility of using Shalford Manor as a Choir School had been explored renting the home at £750, but demands might ultimately involve large capital expenditure, which no funds existed to meet.
A Canon asked whether land on Stag Hill being used for agricultural purposes could be used for Cathedral projects. The Provost thought there would be no difficulties in this respect.
It was decided to form a sub-committee to consider the matter of the Choir School.
The Provost stated that it was intended that the new Cathedral should begin functioning in 1956.
It was envisaged that the New Cathedral Council would come into being in March and the relationship of the Council to the Chapter needs to be settled. There was a question whether the new Cathedral should be a Parish Church Cathedral or not. The opinion of the Chapter appeared to be against a Parish Church Cathedral. It was left to the Provost to ascertain the views of the Rev. W.F. Doe and other neighbouring clergy that would be concerned.
