Committee Meeting of the Broderers Guild May 1962
Miss Taylor had further information about the cushion for St.George’s Cathedral in Jerusalem and discovered the cushion was very large and and an equally large kneeler was required. It was decided that with so much work for our own Cathedral it was impossible to spare the workers at the moment, for such a large project.
The problem with surplices at Christmas was due to the fact that instead of 16 boys and 14 men there were 24 boys and 12 men.Lady Maufe asked if Mrs. Wilson and her workers could make 20 more boys surplices if she [Lady Maufe] supplied the material. Mrs Wilson said she would do her best. There was a message from the Dean thanking Mrs Wilson and here workers for completing ‘this tiresome task’ of altering the necks of 9 surplices. He thought the Chapter would make a small grant towards the extra surplices.
Miss Taylor reported that 80 kneelers were finished in March and had been handed over making a total of 934 in use. Four extra thick kneelers were now needed for the servers.
